I've been a non-drinker since 1992...18 years w/o a drink. I'm a resident of NYS. I worked under contract with the USDOT/FHWA for 18 years. I'm generally liberal and progressive. But let's face facts here. The proposal by Schumer for optional installation and use of these devices to prevent drunk driving will quickly morph into a requirement for all cars to have these devices and the only allowed BAC will be 0.00% . This will be an intrusion into the lives of every driver. Eye motion detection...notoriously unreliable. Steering wheels that detect BAC...lot's of people, including myself, like to wear gloves when driving in the winter. There are many, many technological problems to be overcome and I doubt that this technology will work in my lifetime. Moreover, any expert who has bothered to look at what are called "alcohol related" accidents will conclude that alcohol is only a partial cause, neither necessary nor sufficient, to have caused many, perhaps most, of the accidents. I'm registered as a Democrat, but Schumer won't be getting my vote. It's time to put a stop to Schumer's demagoguery.
